The New Baseline Point – Because You Can’t Manage What You Don’t Measure
A Baseline Point is used to create a standard for a location’s energy consumption. It is a critical benchmark against which the success of future energy and environmental strategies can be measured.
Example:
An energy retrofit was completed at a building. A baseline should be created for the building’s demand (rate of electricity use) that only includes data from before the retrofit. Current building demand can then be compared to the baseline demand to determine if there are any energy savings.

Green Line – Before Retrofit Baseline Demand
Blue Line – Current Demand
